Eva-Maria Kersalu (born in 1988) began medical studies at the University of Tartu in 2007. As a student, she worked as a nurse in the surgery department and as an assistant doctor in Finland. According to Eva-Maria, this added practical value to her studies and introduced various aspects of hospital life. During studies, she became interested in surgery, and after graduating from the Faculty of Medicine, she continued her professional training in general surgery residency. Through her residency mentor, Eva-Maria gained a lot of experience in the treatment of weight loss surgery patients in addition to her general surgical training. After residency, she started doctoral studies in the field of bariatric surgery. Dr. Kersalu joined the Amsel team in 2023. Dr. Kersalu is focused on general and bariatric surgery. In her spare time, Eva-Maria enjoys gardening and walks in nature with her two dogs.
